Richard Brown"I first met Richard in June of 2005.  A friend of mine recommended that I see him to work out the kinks in my swing and hopefully get me into playing shape for the summer.  Our first meeting was just the beginning of an amazing learning opportunity for me… One unlike any other I have experienced.

As a Physical Education teacher, I am often impressed by different teacher’s methods of instruction.  I myself am one for taking the less beaten path when it comes to finding a teaching style that works for each student.  Richard possesses an arsenal of teaching styles and strives to meet the needs of all of his students.  His first question to me was… “So, what kind of learner are you?”  He had my immediate attention:  He understood my language.  From that point forth, Richard chose a style of instruction that focused explicitly on my kinesthetic approach to learning; I need to first feel the proper movement of the swing, and then have the time to practice it and think it through.  After only one lesson, I was striking the ball like never before.  I enthusiastically signed up for a package of 5 lessons with him, right on the spot.  Each subsequent lesson focused on another club, another shot, or another subtle innuendo of the game.  After five, I found myself more equipped to play the game with more confidence, skill, and knowledge for what each shot needed.

I have also experienced a playing lesson with Richard.  In this scenario, he was there to show me every shot, if I wanted him to.  We established a communication system whereby I asked for what I needed as far as feedback.  I really felt he was there as my coach through the entire round.  I also learned much about weather factors (wind, temperature, moisture in the air, etc) and how to play difficult shots.  These are the advanced features of the game that typically a recreational player does not get exposed to learning about.  Watching him play also helped me to visually see what my swing should look like and how I should execute certain shots.

I recommend Richard to anyone who talks about wanting to learn the game, or just needs an adjustment of a swing.  I have observed him teaching lessons both private and in groups, for clinics, junior golfers, highly experienced players, and beginners.  Every time, the lesson is individualized for each learner.  Richard is a Master Instructor in the field.  I would highly recommend him to anyone who wants to take his or her game to the next level of play.  Guaranteed, you will not walk away disappointed."

"My first opportunity to experience Richard’s teaching style was when I signed up with some of my friends for a women’s golf clinic. Richard was enthusiastic, patient, and professional. That introduction to this wonderful sport gave us the confidence to sign up for individual lessons. His overall teaching philosophy that each student should have fun and an enjoyable experience kept my friends and I coming back. Remember we started from not being able to hit the ball with a club to grasping the basic concepts of the game. It is a difficult and frustrating sport but Richard offered encouragement that is essential to gaining confidence.

He has taught us much over the past two years: proper stance, grip, and swing. He has used swing analysis equipment and other methods to improve our game.  Richard has also fitted us with clubs that are tailored to our individual needs. His personalized service made us feel valued and respected.

Richard has taken us on the golf course as a playing/teaching experience. Despite his amazing talent, he made each one of us feel comfortable with our own level of the game.

One other point Richard addresses is the mental aspect of golf – think the shot.  Don’t only hit the shot but pick a target and think about what you want to do before you take your swing.

I have and will continue to recommend Richard to anyone who wants a golf instructor who is not only a master teacher, an extremely talented golfer in his own right, but someone who thoroughly enjoys the game and wants to share that feeling with his students. He can teach and relate to all levels of play, and can help in any area as needed.

He has been patient with my inconsistencies and has helped me to reach my goal of being more consistent on the course. You will not regret having Richard as your golf instructor. That hole in one is within your grasp."

"I've been with a lot of golf instructors that show up, put you in a couple of positions, and send you down the golfing tunnel without a flashlight. You may
look good on the range, but golf is not played on the practice range.

Richard Brown III is one of the few teachers I have met that teaches you "how" to play the game. His lessons are geared towards shooting lower scores. His swing philosophy is based on solid fundamentals, which allow you to concentrate on the important task of scoring."

"It is one of life’s truisms that the ability to do a thing extraordinarily well does not in any way guarantee the ability to teach that thing to others. Fortunately for my golf game, I have been lucky enough to run across a man who is not only an exceptional player but an exceptional teacher. That person is Richard Brown III.

Without a doubt golf is one of the most difficult sports to master. When I first took up the game I was not prepared for how hard it was to learn the fundamentals or how much skill is needed to play the game well. Within a short while, I realized that professional instruction was critical to improving my game. So during my first two years of play, I took lessons with any number of PGA professionals.

RIchard BrownDespite these lessons, the game remained a constant source of frustration for me and the biggest piece of that frustration was reserved for my swing. The golf swing is complex and much advice (some of it seemingly contradictory) has been written and dispensed on how to swing a club. The lessons I took helped correct some of the more obvious errors in my swing, but the truth was that whenever I stepped up to hit a golf ball I was guessing at what I needed to do in order to swing the club properly. The results were predictable even if the flight of my ball was not. After a while golf started to become one of my least favorite ways to relax.

Then I met Richard Brown. During my first lesson, I was immediately impressed by two things. The first was his depth of technical knowledge regarding golf and specifically the golf swing. The second was his ability to organize and communicate that knowledge in a way that did not overwhelm me as a student.

Things began to improve immediately. Richard broke down the golf swing in a way that cut through the technical “clutter” and allowed me to focus on the fundamentals. Together we worked on each element until I had a basic understanding of the many pieces that make up the entire swing. His patience and ability to present the same information in a wide variety of ways allowed me to grasp things on the second and third try that I missed on the first pass. In addition his vast understanding of the sport as a whole has given me an appreciation of golf that goes way beyond the ability to “rip” a ball down the fairway. I have only begun to tap his reserve of knowledge but I know that over time working with Richard will improve every aspect of my game.

Finally, Richard is one of those rare individuals who teach not because they have to, but because they love to. I firmly believe that the only thing Richard enjoys more than playing golf is teaching golf to others. Throughout my association with him he has encouraged me to come to him whenever I am having a problem with my game and I have taken him up on his offer any number of times.

Originally I had intended to take five lessons with Richard thinking that would be enough. Well it’s been two full seasons of lessons so far and I have no intention of quitting anytime soon. I now take a lesson every few weeks and consider Richard a mentor and a coach. And my frustration with golf has been replaced with enjoyment and appreciation for the game.

Richard Brown is not only a great golfer but a great teacher and that is a truly rare combination. To anyone who truly wishes to learn the sport of golf I recommend him without reservation. Take a lesson. You’ll be happy you did."
